The Halton District School Board is holding in-person I-STEM Open Houses in Burlington, Oakville and Milton next week.

Students, families and community members will have the opportunity to learn about the innovative, regional program for secondary students. The four-year program begins with students entering Grade 9.

The open houses will be held on Thursday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. at the secondary schools where the I-STEM programs are held.

I-STEM (Innovation – Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) enables students to develop innovation skills related to engineering design and design thinking, entrepreneurial thinking skills and global competencies.

Students will have enhanced learning opportunities through community and post-secondary partnerships.

“I-STEM has been designed to prepare students for future trends in the workforce and help students solve complex economic, social and environmental problems,” said Nick Frankovich, HDSB superintendent of Education – School Programs.

“With the success of the I-STEM program at Aldershot School in Burlington and Elsie MacGill Secondary School in Milton, the board is excited to expand the program to T.A. Blakelock High School in Oakville.”

“We look forward to sharing with families and the community what current I-STEM students and faculty are accomplishing in the program and showcase the innovative learning space.”

The I-STEM Open Houses are at:

  • Aldershot School – 50 Fairwood Pl. W., Burlington
  • Elsie MacGill SS – 1410 Bronte St. S., Milton
  • T.A. Blakelock HS – 1160 Rebecca St., Oakville

The presentation will be hosted by I-STEM faculty, followed by a question and answer session.

During the Open House, students and families will learn about the:

  • four-year program and I-STEM certificate
  • unique opportunities and partnerships (in person and virtually)
  • STEM learning resources
  • the application process
